Don Ardell, PhD
DON ARDELL, Ph.D.
Wellness Center Director
Don's first book in 1977 helped spark the wellness movement and perhaps you
have heard of it -- High Level Wellness: An Alternative to Doctors, Drugs, and
Disease, printed by Rodale Press, Bantam Books and Ten Speed Press. Don has
written a lot of other books on self management for lifestyle artistry since
High Level Wellness (15 to be exact), including Die Healthy, 14 Days To Wellness
and The Book of Wellness: A Secular Approach to Spirituality, Meaning and Purpose.
Since 1984, Don has written and produced over 60 editions of a provocative quarterly
newsletter called the Ardell Wellness Report. If that were not enough,
he also writes a weekly electronic self- management newsletter; both publications
are now a part of the Wellness Center. Don has degrees from George Washington
University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Stanford University
and The Union Institute in Ohio. He is also a high school graduate! A member
of the board of trustees of the National Wellness Institute for over eight years,
Don is also one of ten Americans given the Healthy America Fitness Leaders Award
in 1991 by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Allstate
Insurance Company and the U.S. Jaycees.
Early in 2004, Don was named USA Triathlon's Male Grandmaster Duathlete of
the Year. This incredible distinction is a testament to the hard work and dedication
that he commits to the sport. This honor came on the heels of his being named
one of Inside Triathlon's 2003 All-Americans. Earning an All-American
ranking for 2003 meant you had to show up, and race well, at the top events
in the sport. For duathlon, these events included the ITU Duathlon World Championships
in Switzerland, the USAT duathlon national championships in Georgia, and Powerman
Zofingen.
